Vision Made Real

VisionMade Real

It was 4 o’clock in the morning of Monday. Joan had to get up from bed that early. That routine has become a part of her system for three weeks already, for if she won’t do it, she may fail to catch the first trip in the morning and may be late in the first subject. Joan lives in Sitio Tungatong which is14 kilometers away from Mambusao West National High School, Mambusao Capiz. From her house, she still has to walk one and a half kilometers to reach the tricycle terminal.

When she was in third year, she thought that the only way that she could see and manipulate a computer is when by the time that she would reach the tertiary level. With this, she has planned to study in the city by the time she graduates from high school and take-up bachelor of science in information technology.

Yet that mentality of hers was changed into something which is real. It was the first day of classes in her fourth year as a high school student. Joan happened to pass by a room, the used-to-be Filipino classroom when she was in her lower years. She stopped for a moment, took a glance and wondered if what are those facilities that look like televisions. She asked one of her classmates then. Yet, nobody answered except one student who lives near the town. It was only that time that she learned that those were computers. Her heart was really filled with excitement as she projected a brilliant look on her face and eyes. She became even more excited when she learned that she would take basic computer education in her fourth year as the first subject in the morning.

This dream of Joan is almost every student’s vision in that school to be realized. With the aid of the government, CICT and the 2007 iSchool Project and the ITC coordinator of the Capiz State University, some public high schools in the province of Capiz have been given such a spark of hope to come up with a computer laboratory equipped units of computers and printers and one of those is Joan’s beloved alma mater.
